So what’s the advantage of a headless CMS for SEO? Because the content management is separate from the front end code you can have a much faster website. Page load speed is a critical component in search rankings because Google wants a great experience for mobile users. Your customers want faster loading webpages too, and a headless CMS can deliver it.

If you’ve worked with Wordpress, you have probably used Yoast, which gives you those SEO fields in the form of a plugin so you can configure each page from an SEO perspective. Since I work at Butter CMS, I can describe how you get these fields in our headless CMS. When your content creators make or edit a page in Butter CMS there are fields for the Title and Meta tags built in. Images have fields for alt text. You can specify H1 headlines. Butter also has custom fields that you can build into each page that you can map to any code property. So from the perspective of your content creators, they just enter SEO information in the same place they type in text or add images. From the developer’s standpoint these can be mapped to the final HTML code that will go on each page. Content creators can even preview these pages and the code right in Butter. Yes, it’s smooth.
